Plans for new Library and homes in West Wickham

Cllr Nicholas Bennett

Bromley Council is proposing to build a new library incorporating part of the existing building in the new design. 26 new homes will be built on the Station Road car park behind the library. A temporary library will be opened whilst construction is underway. An exhibition of the proposed development is on display in the Library until Saturday July 31st.

West Wickham Councillor Nicholas Bennett, speaking on behalf of his colleagues Councillors Mark Brock and Hannah Gray said:

“Bromley faces a severe housing problem. We have 1800 families in temporary accommodation in Bromley and the Home Counties and the shortage of homes means that price of existing ones is beyond the pocket of many people in their 20s and 30s who are forced to live at home or share rented flats. By developing the car park and rebuilding the library the Council aims to provide 26 new homes and a modern library with additional facilities for West Wickham.

We support the intention the proposal in principle, but it is important that the Council gathers as many opinions as possible about the design and layout before final plans are drawn up for consideration later this year by a Planning Committee. If you want to record your views you can do so at the library or online at https://www.bromley.gov.uk/news/article/2743/west_wickham_library_and_housing_consultation_underway.”
