Mayor at the opening the new homes

A further addition to the council’s Bromley Homes for Bromley People initiative has been completed, with a much needed housing scheme in West Wickham providing new homes for social rent.

The latest development at Richmal Court and Crompton Court of 26 new homes, is directly adjacent to the newly opened library and is named after the celebrated author Richmal Crompton, who had strong ties to the borough. The Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Jonathan Andrews was on hand to formally open both Richmal Court and Crompton Court, with the Leader of the Council, Councillor Colin Smith also attending.

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Portfolio Holder for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said:

“This is a fantastic example of what we are able to achieve by using underused land that not only brings forward much needed homes but will also generate financial savings over the long term as it reduces the need to use temporary accommodation, which is expensive. We look forward to bringing forward news of more new homes in the coming months.”

As well as providing more new homes, the £9.6 million investment, including with grant funding from the GLA, will also generate savings as it will reduce the amount needing to be spent on expensive temporary accommodation.

Buxton Building Contractors Ltd, have been responsible for carefully constructing the 2 blocks of accommodation, designed to meet a range of needs for families, with lead designers, Brimelow McSweeney Architects, that the development is aspirational and complementary to the architectural character of West Wickham, which was the council’s requirement. Residents are now expected to move into the new accommodation shortly.

The news follows earlier successful Bromley Homes for Bromley People schemes in Anerley, Bromley and Chislehurst delivering 60 new homes. Further house building initiatives are also coming forward, in Orpington and Bromley, with other schemes also planned in Beckenham and St Paul’s Cray.
