Bob Stewart has welcomed the Government’s decision to ban the drug Nitrous Oxide, also known as NOS/ NO2 and Laughing Gas. The ban was announced as part of a crack-down on Anti-Social Behaviour unveiled by the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in March.

In addition to banning Nitrous Oxide, the Prime Minister announced that plans to fund schemes to ensure people responsible for offences like graffiti and vandalism are made to repair similar damage or tasks which will benefit the local community through tasks like litter picking. They will wear jumpsuits/ hi-vis jackets so they are visible as they work under supervision so that they are visible to members of the public.

Bob has lobbied the Government to ban the gas, which is linked to Anti-Social Behaviour and is harmful to the local environment and wildlife when carelessly discarded by the user.

Bob said:

“Laughing gas is no laughing matter, it’s harmful when misused and to the environment when left littering the streets. This dangerous substance was far too easy to get hold of, despite being illegal to sell it for recreational use. Banning the gas is the right thing to do. I am pleased to see the Government prioritising this as well as cracking down on anti-social behaviour which blights local communities”.
