Disabled Parking Bay

According to recent media reports the latest data from the Department for Transport shows that in the twelve-month period until March 2021 more than half of prosecutions for misuse of disabled parking badges was being brought by just four local authorities, which includes Bromley.

Under the Blue Badge scheme’s eligibility criteria, only individuals who have a physical or non-physical disability affecting their mobility are eligible for a Blue Badge and can benefit from parking concessions applying to on street parking and in Bromley Borough only, car parks.

Kelsey & Eden Park Ward Councillor, Diane Smith, said:

“It is concerning that it would appear that most Councils unlike Bromley, are not enforcing the misuse of Blue Badges . Fraudulently misusing a blue badge means that you are selfishly taking up a parking space from a disabled person who really needs it and completely undermines the integrity  of the Blue Badge scheme . The consequence of using a Blue Badge to which you are not entitled is a criminal record and possibly a fine of up to £1000”

Full details about the Blue Badge scheme are available on the Bromley Council website, bromley.gov.uk/help-transport/blue-badge-scheme
