358 bus in Shortlands Village

Conservative-run Bromley Council have been working with Transport for London (TfL) to turn the 358 bus route into one of London's first fully electric bus routes. The new zero emission model would be powered by a battery onto of the bus, which would be charged at new chargers in Crystal Palace and Orpington.

One of the three Conservative candidates for Clock House ward, Gemma Turrell, attended the Environment and Community Services Policy Development and Scrutiny Committee meeting on the 1st September to hear TfL's presentation on the plans to trial a new state of the art electric bus service along the route of the 358 service replacing the current diesel fleet.

The buses will be charged up fully at the start of each day then use a pantograph to charge up via overhead cables at the ends of the route in Orpington and Crystal Palace.

These buses will contribute to better air quality around the Bromley Town Centre, Shortlands, Eden Park, Beckenham, Penge and Crystal Palace.

Gemma said:

"This is an exciting initiative, as a regular 358 user I can't wait to travel on a much greener, more environmentally friendly bus. I'm pleased that Conservative-run Bromley Council are working with TfL to ensure we have the tools in the fight against air pollution."
